Help Gayle Bates Fight Her Cancer
February 18 2014 – Nena Bill
Gayle Bates is extremely well known in the Comox Valley thanks to all the community events in which she takes part.
You might know her as an MC for the Child Development Centre Telethon or the Wearable Art Show. Or you might know her from her work with the art gallery, the Soroptimist club or the Sid Williams Theatre Board. Or you might even have heard her speak on waste reduction or at the Worldhost Customer Service training program. Gayle Bates has given a lot to the Comox Valley community.
And now it’s time to give back to her.

Unfortunately, Bates has been diagnosed with breast cancer. And this puts the self-employed, mother of two (with one more on the way) in a really tough spot because she won’t be able to work during the year of cancer treatment she faces.
And while the healthcare system will pay for the radiation and chemotherapy, it will not pay for supplementary treatments or for her bills. And, unfortunately, not being able to work means that she won’t be able to pay them either.
So Vashti and I, with the support of Secret Drawers Lingerie and Level 10 Eurospa, are raising funds to help Bates during this trying time.
It has been estimated that Bates needs $65,000 for the year she won’t be able to work. The generous people of the Comox Valley have already donated $22,000 through the Gayle Bates – Future Cancer Survivor online fundraising campaign, but she needs more. So we’re stepping up with an event that we hope will produce the proceeds that Bates requires in order to beat her cancer.
April 4th, Secret Drawers Lingerie and Level 10 Eurospa are hosting the Bollywood Fundraiser for Gayle Bates. This ladies-only event will be held at the Filberg Center and tickets are available now through either business.
This will be a night of fun and frivolities guaranteed to lift the spirits of all who attend. We are having cocktails at 6:00 PM followed by dinner at 7:00 PM. There will be live and silent auctions as well as dancing and entertainment. The focus is on the positive as we know that, with all of our help, Bates is strong enough to beat this illness.
And you get to participate by decorating your own table! The best decorated table wins a prize.
Tickets are only $50 with the proceeds going directly to Bates. Buy tickets at either Secret Drawers Lingerie or Level 10 Eurospa. Shake out your sari and come and join us for this night of Bollywood fun.
